WILMA VAN HEERDE FREASE, age 81, of Venice, FL, formerly of Luverne, died July 27, 2016, at Venice Area Regional Hospital in Venice, Fl. She was born July 26, 1935, at her home in Nobles County to Benjamin and Geraldine (Vree) Grootwassink. She attended school at Leota Christian and later attended Nettleton Business School in Sioux Falls, SD.
Wilma was united in marriage to Alvin Van Heerde on October 15, 1954, in Leota. After their marriage they farmed near Baltic, SD. They moved to a farm in rural Kenneth where they farmed for ten years. In 1973 they moved to Luverne where she worked for Dr. Verland Johnson as a receptionist and dental assistant. Some folks knew her as the red head that worked for Dr. Johnson. She also worked as a massage therapist at the Chiropractors office. Alvin died in 1994 and Wilma remarried in 1999 to Richard Frease but their love was short lived as he was diagnosed with cancer and died two years later. Wilma retired at the age of 62 and enjoyed her winters in Florida. This spring she decided to stay in Florida to enjoy time with her friends.
Wilma was a member of the American Reformed Church in Luverne. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, quilting, gardening, flowers, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her three children, Deb Van Heerde, Luverne; Dr. Darla Van Heerde, Duluth; Doug Van Heerde, Hager City, WI; three grandchildren; Rika Synder, Jennifer Preston, Will French; three great grandchildren; William and Weston French, Logan Preston; three brothers, Art Grootwassink, Edgerton; Bernie (Leah) Grootwassink, Venice, FL; Bob (Joan) Grootwassink, Eden Prairie; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, grandson Ben Snyder, brother, Louie Grootwassink.
A memorial service will be 3pm Saturday, August 6, 2016 at American Reformed Church in Luverne. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Private burial of cremains will be at a later date.
