Obituary

WINNIE VOS, age 92, of Luverne, formerly of Leota, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the Sanford Hospital in Luverne. She was born May 14, 1917, on the family farm near Chandler in Fenton Township, Murray County, to Louis and Jessie (Vander Meer) Douma. Winnie received her education at District 60, rural Murray County. Following her education, she helped on the family farm and took care of her nieces & nephews. Winnie was united in marriage to Arent Vos on February 19, 1946, in Chandler. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Chandler for a short time. They then moved to the family farm southeast of Leota for seventeen years until the family was diagnosed with tuberculosis. The family spent nine months in Mineral Springs Sanitarium in Cannon Falls. They then returned to the home place for a few months. The family moved to Leota in 1961. Winnie became a part-time employee at Mouw?s Hatchery; and cleaned many houses for people. She moved to the Centennial Apartments, in Luverne, on April 7, 2001. She became a resident of the Mary Jane Brown Home, in Luverne, on February 4, 2008. She was a lifelong member of the Bethel Reformed Church, in Leota, where she taught Catechism and was Secretary of the guild and President of the Esther Circle. Winnie enjoyed embroidering, making blankets and afghans, gardening, playing Skipbo and attending activities of her grandchildren. Winnie is survived by her two children, Genevieve (Darvin) Eernisse, Luverne, MN; and Marvin (Nancy) Vos, Sioux Falls, SD; five grandchildren, Todd (Monica) Eernisse, Richland Center, WI; Terry Eernisse, Luverne, MN; Travis (Lisa) Eernisse, Sioux Falls, SD; Tracy (Wade) Krzmarzick, Maple Grove, MN; and Darin Vos, Sioux Falls, SD; and four great grandchildren, Christian Eernisse, Kaitlyn Eernisse, Kadin Krzmarzick & Morgan Scharnhorst. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arent, in 2000; an infant grandson, Troy Eearnisse; a brother, Peter Douma; and a sister, Elizabeth Veld.
