Arthur Schaap Obituary

  

   ARTHUR SCHAAP, age 94, of Worthington, died Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington. He was born May 25, 1927, in Leota, MN to Fred and Minnie (VanDyke) Schaap. Art entered the United States Navy in 5-23-1945. He served his country before being discharged in 8-17-1946 with honorable discharge.

   Art married Lorraine Dorothy Kunze, on May 28, 1947, in Luverne, MN. The couple lived in Worthington all of their married lives. In 1958, they opened their business, Art Schaap Moving & Storage. They retired in 1994.

   He was a faithful servant of Solid Rock Assembly Church, in Worthington, MN. Where he taught Sunday-School, served on the church board and as a church treasurer. He was a member of the American Legion, Dundee Post.  Art enjoyed his time at the cabins including, Big Fork, Lake George, and Sauk Lake. He was passionate about the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. He was proudly awarded by Andrew Van Lines, driving cross country, three million miles accident free. He was known on his CB as the “Moving Dutchman”.

   Art is survived by his wife, Lorraine Schaap, Worthington; three children, Ardella June Windorski, Lake Elmo; Jeffrey Arthur (Ginger) Schaap, Belgium, WI; and Loretta Joy (David) Overby, Cottage Grove, MN; Fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mavis (Harley) Waltjers, Sioux Falls, SD; and Marie (Paul) Derby, Spearfish, SD.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Joyce Schaap; two daughters, Gloria Jean Strandberg and Glenda Jane Tims; two grandchildren, Stacey Jane Morgan and Benjamin Kurt Schaap; one brother, John F. Schaap; and five sisters, Frieda Buss, Hermina Voit Tripp, Gertrude Eckerson, Martha Stene and Clara Berger.

   Funeral service will be 11 am Monday at Solid Rock Assembly Church in Worthington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial with full military honors provided by the Joseph Suding American Legion Post #386 in Dundee, will be at the Worthington Cemetery.
