BONITA ZINNEL, age 81, of Reading, died Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at Ava’s House Hospice in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born December 1, 1938, in Brewster, to Emmit and Ella (Knigge) Smith.
Bonita married Meryle Johnson on June 26, 1955 at the Lutheran Church in Brewster. Bonnie and Meryle lived in Worthington and Reading. After Meryle's death, Bonnie married Ronald Zinnel on September 16, 1995, in Worthington. After their marriage, the couple lived on the family farm outside of Brewster and later moved to Bonnie’s residence in Reading.
She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Worthington and the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. Bonnie enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, sewing and altering wedding clothing, watching birds, and especially loved to dance. Camping was another one of Bonnie's favorite things to do, although, "camping" involved the luxury of an RV. Weekly burger nights at the Eagles and coffee with old classmates at the Blue Line were a cherished tradition for Bonnie.
Bonnie is survived by her four children, Leanne (Paul) Langseth, Worthington, MN; Terry (Teresa) Johnson, Slayton, MN; Connie (Mark) Entsminger, Ramsey, MN; Mark (Michelle) Johnson, Sibley, IA; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; four step-children, Shannon Welling and special friend Gerry Hulstein, Fulda, MN; Jeff (Sam) Zinnel, Huntsville, AL; Mitchell Zinnel and fiancé Tesa Heideman, Lakefield, MN; Nichole (Rob) Beeck, Dundee, MN; thirteen step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nancy (Joe) Rubio, Colorado Springs, CO; Marilyn Winslow, Garden Grove, CA; Sallee (Norbert) Bremer, Avoca, MN; and son-in-law, Gary Behrens, Rushmore, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Meryle Johnson on March 8, 1994; second husband, Ronald Zinnel on July 9, 2013; daughter, Brenda Behrens; and brother, Doug Smith.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. A private family funeral service will take place at 10:30 am Monday.
