Carol (Larsen) Fleming

   CAROL ELAINE FLEMING, of Worthington, died Monday, November 8, 2021 at the Sunset Hospice Cottage at the age of 83. She was born June 24, 1938, in Shelby County, IA, to Ludvig “Louie” and Elna (Christensen) Larsen. Carol was baptized and confirmed at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, IA. She attended country school in Jackson Township, IA; and graduated from Elk Horn-Kimballton High School in 1956. She completed her nurse's training at Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines, IA.
   Carol married Donald Fleming on March 5, 1960 at Elk Horn Lutheran Church. The couple lived briefly in La Mars, IA. Carol was employed at the hospital in Sioux Center, IA. In 1961, they moved to Conrad, IA, where Carol was employed at Drs. Buttan & Patterson’s office. In the fall of 1965, the family moved to Marshalltown, IA. Carol worked for Drs. Reading and Mandsager,  (General Surgeons), Drs. Foley and Kosinski joined their practice later.
   In June of 1988, Carol joined Don in Worthington working for Worthington Specialty Clinic from September 1989 to January 2000. In Marshalltown, Carol was active with College Faculty Wives and Lutheran Women at Trinity Lutheran Church. In Worthington, Carol was active in Lutheran Women at American Lutheran Church, the Worthington Area Hospital Auxiliary and 20th Century Study Club. After Don’s death, she became active in a Widow’s Ministry Group.
   Carol is survived by her two children; Corine “Cory” Kay Fleming; and Duane Allen Fleming; one grandchild, Tyler Fleming; brother, David (Bernice) Larsen; and many nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; and sister Marilyn Hansen.

   Memorial service will be 2 pm Saturday, Nov. 13, at the American Lutheran Church, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Anne Hokenstad. A time of fellowship will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. A private family burial of cremains will be at a later date.
