CLARENCE ANDREW BAUER, age 81, of Adrian, died Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. He was born June 4, 1939, in Rock Rapids, IA, to Andrew and Agnes (Fehr) Bauer. Clarence began school at a country school south of Adrian in 1944 and graduated from Adrian High School in 1956. He entered the United States Navy in December 1957, completed Naval Training Center in San Diego, CA and Aviation Electrician’s Mate technical training before serving at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station and then aboard the USS Salisbury Sound. Clarence’s enlistment was extended six months during the Berlin Wall Crisis until his honorable discharge in June 1962.
Clarence married Ruth Lewis on June 5, 1959, and the couple settled in Adrian after returning from the Navy. He worked for Klooster Trucking before beginning his own custom grinding and feed business, Bauer Grinding & Milling and Golden Sun Feeds, in September 1963. In 1973, Clarence and Ruth sold their business and began farming and operating a dairy farm Clarence named Four Son’s Dairy Farm. In 1983, he began working for Rupp Trucking and later for Steve and Lane Bullerman Farms. In 2015, Clarence became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.
He was a life long member of the First Baptist Church in Adrian where he served as Deacon and Trustee. He also served as President of the Adrian Cemetery Board and on the Kanaranzi Watershed Board. He enjoyed his friends, family, and neighbors, spending many hours visiting over coffee. In spite of the daily demands of milking and farming, Clarence and Ruth rarely missed their boy’s football, basketball, and baseball games. After farming, he enjoyed driving and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Ruth, Adrian; four children, Jim (Denise) Bauer, Maple Grove; Scott (Annette) Bauer, Maple Grove; David (Denise) Bauer, San Diego, CA; and Steve (Traci) Bauer, Pine Island; twelve grandchildren, Andy (Danielle) Bauer, Megan (Jimmy) Olson, Mitch (Aimee) Bauer, Tony (Sarah) Bauer, Danielle (Logan) Smestad, Derek (Cassie) Bauer, Joshua (Nicole) Bauer, Ashleigh Bauer, Stephanie (Jessie) Crockett, Ben Bauer, Noah Bauer and Josiah Bauer; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marjorie (Larry) Magnuson, Minneapolis; and Carolyn (Larry) Carlson, Lewisville, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents and Ruth’s parents; a brother, Lawrence; a sister, Grace Ann Varland; six brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Adrian, officiated by Pastor Bruce Branson. Burial with full military honors provided by the Adrian American Legion will be held in the Adrian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Adrian Cemetery, the Adrian Ambulance, or a local charity of your choice.
