DUANE A. LUKE, age 76, of Luverne, died Sunday, February 12, 2023, at the Sanford Luverne Medical Center. He was born December 27, 1946, in Freeman, SD, to Hubert and Dorothy (Bovee) Luke. He attended country school in Marion, SD.
Duane was united in marriage to Joy (Christensen) Luke on September 4, 1965 in Parker, SD, where the couple lived before moving to Viborg, SD. Duane and Joy moved to Luverne in 1984. He worked at Gold’n Plump, in Luverne, for many years in the shipping department.
Duane had a passion for hunting, fishing, anything with baseball, gardening and spending time with family, especially during the holidays.
He was a member of the Luverne VFW as well as the St. Catherine Catholic Church for many years.
Duane is survived by two sons, Tom Luke, of Luverne; and Todd Luke, of Luverne; five grandchildren, Chad and Cole (Veronica) DeSplinter, Taylor (David), Zachery, and Natasha Luke; two great-grandkids, Nevaeh Sibou and Jackson; five brothers, Jim (Laurel) Luke, of Sioux Falls, Richard Luke, of Marion, SD, Chuck (Linda) Luke, of Marion, SD, Ronald (Lorie) Luke, of Garretson, SD, and Timothy Luke, of Marion, SD; and one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Tirrel, of Viborg, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Joy, in 2005; and daughter, Tammy DeSplinter, in 2006.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 16, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne as well as one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday.
Funeral Mass will start at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, in Luverne, officiated by Monsignor Gerald Kosse.
Burial will follow the Funeral Mass at the St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery before returning to church for lunch.
