Delores Jean Groenewold, age 81, of Lismore, died Saturday, October 16, 2021 peacefully at the Sunset Cottage in Worthington, Minnesota. She was born on February 6, 1940 to Gerrit and Viola Drost in Ocheyedan, Iowa. She attended school at Melvin and Rushmore, graduating from Worthington H.S. in 1958.
She was united in marriage to Rodney Groenewold in 1960. The couple made their home in Rushmore until Rodney joined the Army Reserves. In 1962 the couple moved to their farm near Wilmont.
Delores began her banking career working Saturdays and summer vacations at the Sibley State Bank in 1957. She went to work at the First State Bank of Rushmore when Rodney left for the Army Reserves. In 1967 Delores began her long career at the First National Bank of Wilmont, later United Prairie Bank. This move allowed her to be closer to home since they started farming in March of 1962. She retired from banking in 2005 after 47 years. Retirement found her missing the many friendships she had cultivated at the bank. Delores then became a tour escort for the Reading Bus Company. She enjoyed many fun trips, special memories and made even more lifelong friendships along the way.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rushmore until 1996 when they transferred their membership to the American Reformed Church in Worthington.
Delores found profound pleasure in her girls and her grandchildren; never missing a chance to attend a sporting event, concert or recital. She loved sprint car races, boating, snowmobiling and many card games with friends.
