DOUGLAS WILLIAM KLUEVER, age 86, of Worthington, died Sunday, December 15, 2019, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born August 31, 1933, in Worthington, to William and Elsie (Hohensee) Kluever. He attended School in Bigelow and Worthington.
Doug married Luetta "Lou" Loeschen on October 7, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rost Township. After their marriage, the couple lived in rural Bigelow. Doug drove truck hauling livestock. He also hauled produce from South Dakota where he was referred to as "The Watermelon Man". Doug farmed during the summer. He and Lou gardened and sold produce at the farmers market in the summer, helping Renee. He loved meeting with people and visiting. Doug and Lou wintered in Texas and did flea marketing down there in the winter. One of his hobbies was canning produce. In 2008, the couple moved to Worthington.
He was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington; and the Bigelow Volunteer Fire Department for over thirty eight years, where he had served as Fire Chief. Doug had a personality which was full of humor. He loved spending time with his family.
Doug is survived by his wife, Lou Kluever, Worthington; two daughters, Renee (Don) Peters, Rushmore; and Janell Kluever, Loveland, CO; two grandchildren, Angie (Juan) Palma and Brent (Maria) Peters; seven great-grandchildren, Kiana, Alexa, Juan, Asanti, Araceli, Daniel and Isaac; brother, Darwin (Marie) Kluever, Garrison; sister, Karen (Bob) Meester, Arnolds Park, IA; and a sister-in-law, Iris Kluever, Bigelow.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert Kluever.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Thursday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Mark Schreiber. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
