DUANE DOUGLAS GRUIS, age 69, of Worthington, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born December 20, 1951, in Adrian, to Frederick and Shirley (Behrens) Gruis. Duane attended school in Reading, MN until the eighth grade and then finished high school in Worthington graduating 1969. After high school, he attended college at Worthington Community College and the Medical Institute of Minnesota.
Duane married Barb Rezac on March 31, 1984, at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington. After their marriage, the couple moved to their family acreage outside of Worthington. Duane worked at Bedford Industries, Nobles County Co-Op Oil, New Vision Co-Op, and MNSP.
He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington. Duane grew up on a farm near Reading, MN and never forgot his roots. He had a passion for John Deere tractors of all sizes. He spent countless hours mowing hay, baling, and frequently roaming around the neighborhood on his four-wheeler to visit and joke with everyone in sight. Duane enjoyed camping, biking, playing softball, and especially loved spending time with his granddaughters and the rest of his family. He also loved to give tractor rides in the summer and sleigh rides in the winter.
Duane is survived by his wife, Barb Gruis, Worthington; two daughters, Lindsey (Charlie) Lee, Bismarck, ND; and Kathy Gruis, Worthington; two granddaughters, Emerald and Olive Lee; brother, Daryle (Rachelle) Gruis, Worthington; three sisters, Marlys Monahan, Waseca; Barb (Gene) Reker, Lismore; and Joanne (Ron) Fricke, Jackson; and sister-in-law, Gail Gruis.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ron Gruis.
In memory of Duane, we ask you to drink a Budweiser with olives, or tell a dirty joke to a friend.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, August 5, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. Funeral Service will be Friday, August 6, at 10:30 am, at St. Mathew Lutheran Church, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Mark Schreiber.
