EDWARD B. BERNING, age 90, of Adrian, died Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born September 10, 1930, in Lismore, to Henry and Louise (Farwick) Berning. Ed graduated from Lismore High School. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Marines.
Ed married Dolores Konz on August 17, 1954, at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian. The couple farmed by Wilmont for twelve years. In 1967, they moved to Adrian. In 2015, Dolores & Ed moved to their apartment in Adrian on Tennessee Avenue.
He was a member of St. Adrian Catholic Church; and the Adrian American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling to casinos with Delores; the Luverne Pizza Ranch; playing slots on his I-Pad and especially spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his three children, Doug (Willy) Berning, Adrian; Diane (Dave) Banck, Luverne; and Larry "Kono" (Tess) Berning, Adrian; five grandchildren, Bryan Banck, Tim (Becky) Banck, Kelly (Rory) Witt, Jeremy (Alesha) Berning and Aaron (Dianne) Vander Plaats; eight great-grandchildren, Roman, Tucker, Anna, Braxton, Jessa, Kirby, Parker and Haley; two brothers, Alvin Berning, Luverne; and Jim Berning, Owatonna; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolores on March 22, 2017; grandson, Jason Berning in 2002; an infant brother, Raphael; a brother, George Berning; two sisters, Lorraine Van Peursem and Marie Smeins; brother-in-law, Myron Smeins; and two sisters-in-law, Gert and Rita Berning.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday, with Parish Prayers at 4 pm, at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian. Visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Saturday at St. Adrian Catholic Church officiated by Monsignor Richard Colletti. Burial with full military honors provided by the Adrian American Legion, will be in the St. Adrian Cemetery.
