Ellen Marie (Krosschell) Wynia

Ellen Marie Krosschell Wynia, was born on September 23, 1928 to Evert and Eva (VandeVoort) Krosschell on a farm east of Edgerton, MN. Ellen received her formal education at the Edgerton Christian school through 10th grade, then graduated from Hull Western Christian and received her teaching certificate at Westmar College in LeMars, IA.

Ellen married Earl Gerald Wynia on July 12, 1949 at the First Christian Reformed church of Edgerton. To this union they were blessed with four children, Erwin, Mike, Donna and Steven. They settled on a small farm southwest of Leota, later moved to an acreage near Lismore. They then moved to a small house in Edgerton. Ellen then moved to the Edgebrook apartments. She was a faithful member of the Leota CRC, Lismore Presbyterian church and now the First Christian Reformed church of Edgerton, MN.

Ellen taught 2 years at the Edgerton Christian school and then 30 years at Leota Christian until her retirement in 1989. After retirement, Ellen attended Ladies Aid, lead Bible Study, taught Sunday School, served as an elder, sang in the Choir, played organ, and was janitor in the Lismore Presbyterian Church. When they moved to Edgerton, she attended bible studies and participated in Friendship Class in the Edgerton CRC. She also attended Senior Citizens where she played piano for the programs. Ellen loved to play cards and games with her friends and family and also loved to read. She learned computer skills at age 89 where she loved to do puzzles on her computer and follow family on Facebook. She also traveled with family in later years to Texas, North Carolina, Branson, Niagara Falls. Black Hills, and several more places.

Ellen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend who loved her family and prayed for them daily.

Ellen went to be with her heavenly Father from the Hospice Cottages in Luverne, MN on April 21, 2024.  She reached the blessed age of 95 years and seven months. Ellen is lovingly remembered by her four children, Erwin (Linda) Wynia, Sheldon, IA, Myron Wynia, Forest Lake, MN, Donna (Dennis) Van Wyk, New Sharon, IA, and Steven (Lora) Wynia, Luverne, MN; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister Madeline Sharkey; and three sisters-in-law, Alice Krosschell, Clarice Krosschell, Donna Ten Cate; other family and friends.  Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Earl G. Wynia; her parents, Evert and Eva; grandsons, Lloyd and Nathan Wynia; great grandson, Jonah Van Wyk; brothers, Peter, Evert (Phyllis), and Jack Krosschell, and infant brother Evert; sisters, Hattie (Art) Donker, Jenny (John) Olthof, Berdina (Pete) Van Ginkle, Agnes (Heine) Ruiter, and Bernice (Harold) Ten Cate.

   Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Thursday, April 25, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton; visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Funeral will be 10:30 AM Friday at the First Christian Reformed Church, in Edgerton, officiated by Pastor Scott Muilenberg. Burial will be in the Leota Community Cemetery.
