Eric Jon Christensen

ERIC JON CHRISTENSEN, age 56, of Luverne, died Friday, April 30, 2021, at Avera McKennen Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born January 21, 1965, in Morris, MN, to Glenn and Yuvonne (Lake) Christensen.  Eric graduated from Chokio-Alberta High School in 1983. He later graduated from Alexandria Technical & Community College majoring Law Enforcement. 
   Eric was united in marriage to Mary Cantril  on August 12, 1988 at St. Leo Catholic Church in Gordon, NE. The couple made their home in Venango, NE where Eric served as a deputy sheriff. They moved to Mitchell, NE where he worked for the City of Mitchell as a patrol officer. Eric enjoyed police work, but his heart was in farming and so he changed his career path and started working for a farmer and then for a harvest crew combining wheat. The long season away from home wasn’t for him.  He started working for John Deere and enjoyed working there for many years. Eric and Mary moved to St. James in 2003 and Luverne in 2015. His last years of employment were with Icon Ag & Turf  in Doon, IA, until he could no longer work because of health issues.
   He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne.  He enjoyed the annual deer hunt with his siblings and nephews.   His love of farming kept him collecting farm toys for many years. He enjoyed a part-time job at the Rock County Historical Center and serving as an usher and catechist at St. Catherine Catholic Church.  He truly enjoyed his time with family and his memory will be forever cherished.
   Eric is survived by his wife Mary, Luverne; four siblings, Mark (Janet) Christensen, Perham, MN; Jan (Merida) Christensen, Alexandria, MN; Lynn Christensen, Eagan, MN; and Kurt (Destinee) Christensen, Berlin, ND; sister-in-law, Dennette Christensen, Jamestown, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dick Christensen, and sister-in-law Vicki Christensen.        

    Visitation will be from 5-7pm Friday, May 7, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne and also one hour prior to the Service at Church.

   Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 8, 2021, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne.  Burial will be at St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery in Luverne.
