Esther Becker

   ESTHER BECKER, age 97, of Worthington, died, January 27, 2022 at Ecumen Meadows in Worthington. She was born April 1, 1924 on a farm one and half miles south of Wilmont, MN; to parents Henry and Lena (Balster) Slater. She attended school at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School in Wilmont.

   Esther married Alfred (Jiggs) Becker on May 14, 1946 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont. To this union two sons were born Keith and Robert Becker. After their marriage they farmed southwest of Wilmont for 18 years. They then moved to Adrian and later to Valley City, ND where she worked at the Valley City Newspaper. She was later trained for hospital office work and worked at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, ND; and also at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, MN.

   They moved to Mesa, AZ in 1985 and Esther spent 30 years in Mesa, AZ; until 2016 when she moved to the Meadows in Worthington, MN. Her husband died in 1992 while in Arizona.

   Esther is survived by her brother, Jim (Mary) Slater, Worthington and a sister, Arlene Schlichte, Worthington; two grandchildren, Chad and Heather and a daughter-in-law, Mary Becker.

   She was preceded in death by her parents; Henry and Lena, step mother  Gen Slater, her sons, Keith and Robert Becker, brothers Ray and Tom Slater, sisters, Joan Slater and Marie Schutz, grandparents Henry and Caroline Slater, Frank and Elizabeth Balster, baptismal parents, Wm and Lena Slater.

   A Time of Fellowship will be from 9:30 to 11:00 Monday, June 6, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, in Wilmont.

   Memorial Mass will be 11:00 Monday, June 6, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Officiated by Monsignor Richard Colletti.
