GARY SEVERSON, age 85, of Brewster, died Thursday, September 3, 2020, at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born July 15, 1935, in Worthington, to Paul and Mabel (Johnson) Severson. He graduated from Brewster High School in 1953. Gary served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960.
Gary married Janice Powers on June 10, 1965, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brewster. The couple lived in Brewster. Gary worked as a meat cutter at Dicks Food Market in Brewster before he began working at Forbes Meat Market in Harris, IA.
He was a former member of the Brewster Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed cooking, traveling the western United States with his wife and four children and camping at Bearhead Lake State Park.
Gary is survived by his four children, Kay (Randy) Schmitz, Brewster; Linda (Mike) Shay, Rapid City, SD; Jerry (Jenine) Severson, Monticello; and Bob (Denise) Severson, Albertville; eleven grandchildren, Angie (Bryan Feils) Schmitz, Sarah (Tyler) Obermoller, Karen Schmitz, Kurt Schmitz, Kyle Shay, Eric Shay, Noah Shay, Gabe Severson, Mette Severson, Elin Severson and Allie Severson; a great-granddaughter, Amelia Obermoller; and a sister, Alice Torme, Beverly Hills, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Janice on July 20, 2000.
A private family service will take place at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington, at a later date.
