GORDON WIERTZEMA, age 59, of Worthington, died Thursday, March 25, 2021, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born July 23, 1961, in Rock Rapids, IA, to Virgil and Anita (Huisman) Wiertzema. He graduated from Worthington High School and later earned a degree in Business Administration from SMSU.
Gordon married Cory Kruger on June 11th, 1983, at the American Reformed Church in Worthington. After their marriage, the couple lived on the family farm south of Worthington, where Gordon farmed alongside his father. He spent many hours in the combine/tractor and loved tending to the fields. Gordon's faith was very important to him. He was a member of the American Reformed Church in Worthington, where he served as a deacon several times. Gordon was a hardworking man who could fix anything. He was always on call for his daughters to help with building projects or car/house issues. He was also an employee of JBS in Worthington for over 30 years. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Cory Wiertzema, Worthington; two daughters, Sara Wiertzema, Worthington; and Jordan (Joe) Ahrens, Richfield; parents, Virgil and Anita Wiertzema, Worthington; brother, Steve (Connie) Wiertzema, Hills; and five nephews, Kale Wiertzema, Karic Wiertzema, Steve Kruger, Justin Kruger, and Jesse Kruger.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Lawrence Kruger; grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A time of fellowship will be from 2-4 pm Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. A memorial service will be 10:30 am Monday at the American Reformed Church, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Troy D. Van Beek. Burial of cremains will be in the Worthington Cemetery.
