Grace Johnson Obituary

GRACE ELAINE JOHNSON, age 89, of Worthington, MN, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 6, 2020. She was born on January 4, 1931 in Milwaukee, WI to Arthur and Dorothy (Blosmore) Semm. She graduated from New Richmond High School in Wisconsin in 1949. Grace married Gerald Johnson on March 11, 1950. They lived in Washburn, WI until 1957 and had three daughters: Sharon, Sandy and Cindy. From 1957 to 1970 they lived in Fon du Lac, WI, Huron and Watertown, SD, and Mason City, IA. They moved to Worthington in 1970.

Grace had a benign leg tumor when she was 12 in 1943. She had surgery at Shriner’s Hospital for Children in St. Paul, MN and was indebted to Shriners her entire life.  Grace was a devoted wife to Gerald and they were married for 70 years. Her legacy is the work of her hands through the years as she blessed others. She sewed countless garments for her three daughters in the 50’s – 70’s. Grace lovingly provided in-home care to her daughter Sharon who was terminally ill and also to Grace’s mom during the same years. She worked as an Avon representative from 1967-1970 and activities director at Lake Haven Nursing Home from 1973-76. Grace and Gerald provided a second home to grandchildren after their daughter Cindy’s death in 1993. Grace and Gerald traveled in their RV as construction/teaching helpers for Mobile Missionary Assistance Program (MAAP) in the 80’s and 90’s. Grace had a love for gardening and crafts and at age 70 discovered she had an additional artistic ability to paint. She painted on glassware, cards and wood and blessed friends and loved ones with her creative keepsakes. She was an avid gardener and loved all flowers – especially sunflowers. She had a love for the Bible and for reaching out to others who needed encouragement.

Grace is survived by her daughter, Sandy Johnson-Frayseth, Spartanburg, SC; five grandchildren, Gretchen, Josh, Grant, Elaine and Ben and three great-grandchildren, Violet Grace, Toren Gideon and Avaleenah Grace.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Semm, husband Gerald on May 16, 2020 and two daughters, Sharon Johnson  and Cindy Stanley.
