Helen Husen Obituary

HELEN HARRIET FINNERN ROSLANSKY HUSEN, age 95, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed into her eternal home on Monday, January 20, 2020 in St. Louis, MO.  She was born March 9, 1924, Sioux Valley Township, in Jackson County, Minnesota, to Herman and Catharina (Schneider) Finnern.  She was baptized on April 18, 1924, and confirmed on June 23, 1940, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux Valley, Minnesota.  Helen graduated from Sioux Valley High School in 1942.

Helen married her high-school sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Wayne Roslansky, on December 16, 1944, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux Valley.  They farmed in Sioux Valley and four children were born to them while living there.

Tragedy struck this young family when Bob died on June 28, 1960, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.  Following Bob’s death, Helen went to Worthington Junior College for a year.  She also began working as a secretary for the Sioux Valley School.  Helen and the children moved to Lakefield, Minnesota, in August 1962.  She worked for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office in Lakefield.  In July 1964, another classmate contacted her.  His name was Harold Husen.  Helen and Harold were married July 24, 1965, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield.  Helen joked that she married fifty percent of the men in her high school class.  They made their home in Dayton, Minnesota.

Helen and Harold enjoyed working on their house and yard and traveling.  Over the years they traveled to Europe, Australia, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and many states in the United States often with special friends Walt and Shirley Richards.

Helen loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed entertaining and baking Christmas goodies for the grandkids.  She always had Fruit Loops for the grandchildren because their parents wouldn’t buy them.  She made bunny crib quilts for each family, pelican pajama bags, doll bedding, and Christmas crafts for her family.  She painted or stained the many wood working projects Harold made for their families.

Helen worked for over 25 years at Ahrens Greenhouse near Osseo, Minnesota.   She truly enjoyed working with plants, and her yard showed it.

Helen was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Anoka, Minnesota, for over 50 years.  She enjoyed quilting, assembled Braille books, stuffed bulletins, prepared and served luncheons for funerals, and attended Bible study.

When Harold passed away after 47 years of married life, Helen relocated to senior living at Champlin Shores in Champlin, Minnesota.  In August 2015, she moved to St. Louis to live with her daughter, Suzanne.

Helen is survived by her children:  David (Kathy) Roslansky, Worthington, Minnesota; Suzanne Hilmer, St. Louis, Missouri; Daniel (Connie) Roslansky, Burnsville, Minnesota; and step-children: Paavo (Julia) Husen, North Aurora, Illinois; Maria (Anthony) Pérez, Galt, California.  Also survived by grandchildren: Kristin (Jim) Keal, Robert D. (Paula) Roslansky, Lisa (Ron) Mudge, Nicole (Jared) Ahlberg, Eric (Aya) Roslansky, Aaron Hilmer, Kathleen (Neal)Hilmer-Kendall, Tamara (Erik) Ahlberg, Jonathan (Amy) Roslansky; and step-grandchildren: Dimitry Husen, Sasha Husen, Nicolas Pérez and Aina Pérez.  She is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Catharina;  her husband, Robert; her husband, Harold; a daughter, Kathryn Hermanson; sons-in law, Gordon Hermanson and Bert Hilmer; grandson, Adam Hilmer; brothers: Adolf, Arthur, Meinhardt, and Henry Finnern;  sisters: Edna Hamann, Ella Steinbeck, Clara Rients, and Martha Finnern and several nieces and a nephew.

Helen’s memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 38523 730th Street, Sioux Valley, MN  56150, 507-839-3086.  She will be interred in a private family committal service in the Sioux Valley Cemetery.  Her nephew, Rev. Terry Finnern will officiate.

Blessed be the memory of Helen Harriet Finnern Roslansky Husen.
