HENRY MESS, age 74, of Rushmore, died Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born October 1, 1949, in Luverne, to Frank and Anna (Wagenaar) Mess. He graduated from Adrian High School in 1967.
Henry married Elaine Rogers on September 6, 1975, at the Bigelow Methodist Church. The couple moved to the family farm northwest of Adrian where they farmed and milked cows. In November of 1996, they retired and moved to Rushmore. After retiring from farming, Henry worked for Doug Hermeling raising hogs. He later worked at Walmart for fourteen years; and at the Worthington YMCA for four years.
He was a former member of the Adrian First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon & Elder. Henry was a current member of the Adrian First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed helping people.
Henry is survived by his wife, Elaine Mess, Rushmore; two daughters, Shellie Williams, Round Lake; and Heidi (Enrique) Romero, Worthington; three grandchildren, Ashley Williams, Alexander Romero and Natalie Romero; a great-grandchild, Nathan Williams; three step grandchildren, Justin Williams, Brianna Romero and Stephanie Romero; a step great-grandson, Izen Strasmann; a sister, Cindy Mess, Alcester, SD; a brother-in-law, Elmer Pietz, Edgerton; and many in-laws and nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, April Elaine Mess; son-in-law, Jim Williams; an infant brother; and a sister, Georgia Pietz.
Funeral will be 11 am Friday, November 10 at the First United Methodist Church, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Daren Flinck. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be at 1:30 pm Friday at the Adrian Cemetery.
