James Cook Obituary

   JAMES BERNARD COOK, age 82, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Worthington, died Monday, March 21, 2022, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born December 8, 1939, in Adrian, to Lawrence and Bernice (Wieneke) Cook. Jim grew up on the family farm east of Adrian. He graduated from St. Adrian Catholic High School in 1959.
   Jim married Mary Reining in 1960; and to this blessed union five children were born. Jim had several jobs before settling down, as a very dedicated employee at Armour & Co. He continued to work there for forty four years. He was very active in the plant regarding the union representation. He had the ability to talk to everyone and make them feel comfortable. Jim was a Steward for twenty years and had been on the union board for twelve years.
   He was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Worthington, where he was a communion minister to the nursing home and worked Tootsie Roll drives. Jim was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, worked fish fry’s and was a greeter at church where no one ever got by without a handshake or a hug.
   Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Cook, Sioux Falls, SD; five children, Dean (Lana) Cook, Lebanon, OH; Mark Cook, Willmar, MN; Carl Cook, Wheaton, IL; Paul Cook, Evergreen, CO; and Christina (Mike) Thier, Brandon, SD; three grandsons, Mitchell, Joshua and Carson Thier; a brother, Orville (Virginia) Cook, Windom; five sisters, Loraine Poss, Bigelow; Betty Herman, Ellsworth; Donna Langel, LeMars, IA; Mary Wolf, Sioux Falls, SD; and Marguerite (Willy) Nath, Luverne; and a sister-in-law, Alice Cook, Adrian.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lorn and Virgil Cook; and a sister, Virginia Deutsch.

   Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Thursday, with Parish Prayers at 8 pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10:30 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Worthington, officiated by Fr. James Callahan and Deacon Vern Behrends. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery in Worthington.
