Laurie Lynn (Martens) Staples

   LAURIE LYNN STAPLES, age 64, of Jackson, died Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Home in Jackson. She was born October 15, 1958, in Worthington, to Clifford and Laura (Mastbergen) Martens. She graduated from Worthington High School in 1977. As a youngster, she enjoyed ice skating, fishing and camping with her family, and going to the Minnesota State Fair with her friends.

   Laurie married Rick Staples and the couple was blessed with a beautiful daughter named Amanda Elizabeth in 1988. They later divorced. She met her special friend, “Red” Doyle Van Cleave in 2007. They were together twelve years. Red passed away in April of 2019. They enjoyed fly fishing and camping in Colorado and Wyoming. Laurie was diagnosed with cancer in 2014.

Laurie is survived by her daughter, Amanda (Tayler) Altman, Las Vegas, NV; her three cats, Lucky, Tabby and Charlie; two sisters, Connie (Dwayne) Wienrank, rural Reading; and Karen Martens, Estherville, IA; two sisters-in-law, Marlene Martens, Lakefield; and Valerie Veen, Ellsworth; brother-in-law, Tom Holinka, Worthington; and many nieces and nephews, Troy, Shane, Robert, Sandy, Michelle, Kristina, Drew, Lillian, Brad, Amy, Brian and Heidi; many great-nieces and nephews; and cousins.

   She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Linda Holinka; two brothers, Gregory and Tom Martens; an infant sister, Lynnette; and a nephew, William Martens.

   A time of fellowship will be Tuesday, May 16, from 5-7 pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
