LEO ALLEN POMRANKE, age 92, Worthington, died Saturday, May 4, 2019, at his home. He was born March 2, 1927, in Ashton, IA, to William "Bill" and Frieda (Williamson) Pomranke. He attended country school near Ashton. Leo entered the United States Navy on April 19, 1945. He served his country in the Pacific during WWII. He was honorably discharged on July 24, 1946.
Leo married Jean Marlene Janshen on August 23, 1950, at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church Parsonage south of Rushmore. The couple farmed near Reading before moving to Luverne where Leo worked at Wood Brothers and Terrace Park. In 1953, they returned to farming in the Rushmore and Reading areas. He retired in 1990.
He was a member of the Worthington American Legion and the Wilmont VFW. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and playing cards, especially pinochle.
Leo is survived by his wife, Jean Pomranke, Worthington; four children, Linda (Guy) Pagenkopf, Litchfield; Billy (Peggy) Pomranke, Mankato; Danny (Marlys) Pomranke, Willmar; and Daryle (Connie) Pomranke, Mankato; eight grandchildren, Serena (Nicholas) Shultz, Cassie (Kevin) Naset, Travis (Kinzie) Pomranke, Karen (Dave) Postma, Amy (Jarad) Ripperger, Angela (Chad) Koosman, Matthew (Alicia) Pomranke and Corey (Natalie) Pomranke; seventeen great-grandchildren, Max, Juniper, Avery, Olive, Evelyn, Wren, Maddie, Alivia, Daxton, Isley, Marlee, Mack, Sophia, Ariel, Hunter, Brooklyn, and Vaida; and a sister-in-law, Ruby Janshen, Fulda.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wilbur (Judy) Pomranke; and a nephew, Lonnie.
Visitation will be 2-5 pm Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Monday at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, in Reading, officiated by Pastor Del Bolluyt. Burial with full military honors provided by the Worthington American Legion & VFW and The Patriot Guard Riders will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
