Mary Kay (Kathryn) Magee died unexpectedly on April 14, 2020, at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN at the age of 90. Mary Kay was born to John J. and Grace (Sietsema) Miller on June 30, 1929 in Sibley, IA. She grew up as a child with her sister Jean (Kingery) near Bigelow, MN and graduated from Worthington High School in 1947.
Mary Kay married John E. Magee of Ellsworth, MN on October 6, 1951, in Worthington, MN. Shortly thereafter, John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. John was assigned to Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX to work in accounting. The couple lived on base until 1955 when they moved to St Paul, MN where John continued his work as an accountant. From 1959 to 1980, the family lived in Huron, Sioux Falls, and Mitchell, SD. John died in August 1980. In 1982, Mary Kay left Mitchell and moved back to Worthington, MN.
Mary Kay was a devoted and loving mother who put her family needs ahead of her own. She was a private person who, in her own quiet and subtle way, graciously shared her time and many talents. She wanted to make a positive difference whenever she could without being noticed. Mary Kay’s favorite motto was: “My worries are few because my blessings are many”. She lived a good life; a life full of compassion, gratitude and love. For this, she has become an angel who has gained her wings and is now watching over us.
Mary Kay entered the work force late in life after being widowed at the age of 51. She worked several years at Prairie House in Worthington, MN until the age of 75. She never remarried after the death of her husband, who preceded her by 40 years. Mary Kay spent the last five years of her life at Maple Lawn Nursing Home. She loved her room at Maple Lawn and her favorite times at Maple Lawn were participating in all the organized activities. Mary Kay made many friends at Maple Lawn and she was well liked by staff.
Mary Kay is survived by five children, Gregory (Dominique), Anchorage, AK; Kevin, Columbia, MO; Noel (Liz), Columbia, MO; Bryan, Moberly, MO; and Ruth Ellen, Sioux Falls, SD; eight grand children (Sarah, Claire, Danielle, Adam, Megan, Zachary, Alexa, and Mary); three step-grand children (Sophie, Laurel and Valerie); four great grand children (Ben, Oliver, Leon, and Hendrix); and seven step-great grand children (Sam, Jack, Shawn, Gregory, Sophie Marie, Marc and Cove).
