MICHAEL LESLIE “SAMMY” SAMMONS, age 67, of Round Lake, died Saturday, April 8, 2023, at his home. He was born April 15, 1955, in Luverne, to Leslie and Lilly Ann (Yarrington) Sammons. He graduated from Luverne High School in 1973.
Mike married Mary Padilla and to this union four children were born, Chad, Eric, Angela & Lindsay. The couple later divorced.
Mike married Ronda Hurley on February 3, 1998, in Maui, HI. The couple moved to Round Lake where they owned & operated Eastside Acres Campground until retiring in 2021. Mike also worked as a carpet layer for over forty years. They wintered in Mesa and Gold Canyon, AZ for the past seven years.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Round Lake, the Round Lake Sportsman Club, the Luverne & Worthington Ambulance EMTI, and the Round Lake Volunteer Fire Department for over twenty years. Mike enjoyed motorcycle trips, line dancing, all things music/trivia, fishing, ice fishing, deer hunting, flying drones and playing softball. Mike’s greatest joy was his grandkids. He loved spending time with them and watching/being at all of their activities. .
Mike is survived by his wife, Ronda Sammons, Round Lake; three children, Chad (Sara) Sammons, New Ulm; Angela (Robert) Sneller, Luverne; and Lindsay (Thomas) Jenniges, Ellsworth; two step children, Ashley (Kevin Seimers) Harms, Lake Park, IA; and Anthony (Nikki) Voss, Round Lake; fifteen grandchildren, Gabriella & Natalie Sammons, & Ferynn Sammons; Riley, Hannah & Nolan Sneller; Jackson, Jolee & Samuel Jenniges; Quinton & Grayson Harms; Liam & Maleah Seimers; and Nova & Kayden Voss; two sisters, Donna (Mike) Rank, Faribault; and Michelle Schreier, Currie; sister-in-law, Paula (Rod) Paplow, Round Lake; two brothers-in-law, Pete Baker, Cole Harbor, ND; and Scott (Kris) Hurley, Palm Coast, FL; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Eric in 2019; sister, Kristi Baker; brother, David Sammons; and a brother-in-law, Paul Schreier.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 12, from 4-7 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Funeral will be Thursday,April 13, at 10:30 am at The First Presbyterian Church, in Round Lake, officiated by Pastor Galen Smith. Burial will be in the Round Lake Cemetery.
