MYRNA SPEASE, age 89, of Luverne passed away peacefully Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter, MN. Myrna Berta Maria Funck was born January 20, 1933, to Fred and Catharina (von Glahn) Funck in Pipestone County, Minnesota. Her early childhood was spent on farms in Rock County. The family moved to the Kenneth area in 1948. She attended rural schools until 1944 when she became a pupil at Ellsworth Public School. She attended Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls prior to working at the First National Bank in Luverne. She was united in marriage to Donald Spease on July 13, 1956 at Grace Lutheran Church, in Luverne. They made their home and raised their children in Luverne. Four children were born to this union; Kimberly, Randall, Mark and Jana. Amy joined the family in 1974. Myrna cared for her family as her occupation was a homemaker until all the children were in high school. She worked for J.C. Penney Co., Culligan and did geriatric care until her retirement in 2007.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, assisted with Vacation Bible School and was a Bible Study Leader for fourteen years. She also was a former member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Extension Club ACE and Pink Ladies. She enjoyed her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was a special joy to attend their school functions, dance, sports, drama and music.
Myrna is survived by her two sons, Randy (Becky) Spease, Pine River, MN; Mark (Stephanie) Spease, Spooner, WI; three daughters, Kim (Greg) Eisenhuth, Embarrass, MN; Jana (Russ) Brix, Madison Lake, MN; Amy (Tim) Schuchard, Sartell, MN; nine grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren with one due in October; brother Gordon (Mary) Funck, Asheville, NC; sister, Linda (Stan) Halverson, Alexandria, MN as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, brother Rudolf Funck and sisters, Alma Kitchenmaster and Luella Enger.
A private family burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 11 am Saturday Oct. 1 at the First Baptist Church in Luverne. A time of fellowship will be an hour prior to the service on Saturday.
