NANCY “DUFF” LEE BERTRAND, age 86, of Worthington, died Friday, April 21, 2023, at her home in Golden Horizons. She was born August 19, 1936, in Worthington, to Orville and Shirley (Scheffler) Smith. She attended school in Reading before graduating from Worthington High School in 1954.
Duff married John Jr. Meyer on August 16, 1955, in Reading. The couple farmed near Reading before moving to the farm north of Wilmont, known to the family as “The Pink House” in 1966. Their marriage was blessed with six children, and they divorced in 1978.
Duff married Donald Bertrand on February 10, 1986, in Las Vegas, NV. They lived on a farm north of Wilmont. They enjoyed their retirement and wintered in Yuma, AZ. Don died on November 26, 2003. Duff became a resident of Golden Horizon’s in 2009.
She worked at Campbell’s Soup in Worthington, the Fulda Nursing Home, The Fulda Bakery, and at HyVee where she was known as “The Demo Lady”. She enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, collecting carousels & teapots, and writing poetry and watching the Minnesota Twins, Vikings and Gophers; but her greatest joy in life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Duff is survived by her six children, Criss (Daryl) Sibson, Wilmont; Robin (Randy) Koehne, Worthington; Jeffrey (Cindy) Meyer, Worthington; Candyce Meyer, Worthington; Todd Meyer, Worthington; and Tim Meyer, Worthington; eleven grandchildren, Doug (Kari) Sibson, Jamie (Dustin) Branstner, Angie (Lance) Meyer, Vickie (Matt) Franks, Dani (Andrew) Sheldrick, Clint (Katie) Meyer, Justin “Willie” (Tara) Meyer, Brittany Flatebo, Karli (Jon) Meyer-Grinsell, Jessi (Brandon) Bosma and Nichole (Chad) Frericks; seventeen great-grandchildren, Parker, Ryleigh, Maverick, Cash, Jacob, Nolan, Ashlynn, Bubba, Sebastian, Caleb, Evan, Freya, Karsyn, Kaiser, Decker, Stevie, Anna, Laney and one due in October; eight step children; many step grandchildren; many step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Essie (John) Boltjes, Worthington; and Sandy (Larry) Brouwer, Edgerton; and two brothers-in-law, Richard Robinson, Worthington; and Larry Comnick, Worthington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; ex-husband, John; a brother, Jack (Alma) Smith; and four sisters, Jean (Cal) Christensen, Joyce Rogers, Pudge Comnick and Corky Robinson.
A time of fellowship will be Monday, April 24 from 4-7 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. Memorial service will be Tuesday at 10:30 am at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor James Sickmeyer. A private family committal service will take place at a later date.
