Orvel Ralph Dreesen, was born in Pipestone County Minnesota on May 26,1936,to Ralph and Aalke (Groen) Dreesen. The family lived in Elkton, South Dakota where Orvel attended country school. When he was eight the family moved to a farm around Adrian, Minnesota. He attended Adrian public school for part of his 3rd and 4th grade school years. The family then moved to a farm around Luverne, Minnesota and he attended and graduated from 8th grade country school.
He worked for various farmers. At the age of 16 he went to live and work for Uncle George and Aunt Arlene Groen until the fall of 1961. In between that time he joined the Army. He was stationed in Stutgard, Germany.
On February 3,1961 he married the love of his life Karen Harms. They lived out at Uncle George and Aunt Arlene for a short time. In 1963 they moved to Ellsworth, bought the plumbing and heating shop known as Orv's Plumbing and Heating, and he acquired his master plumbers license. They owned and operated the business for 50 years "retiring" in June 2013. Their three sons purchased the business from them, and it is now known as Orv & Son's,Inc. Orv continued to "OUTWORK Jerry" until November of 2020.
Orvel will be deeply missed by his wife, Karen, who he was married to for 60 years; daughter Tania (Randy) Heikes, Luverne, Mn.; son Kevin (Glenda) Dreesen, son Chad (Becca) Dreesen; son Jerry Dreesen, all of Ellsworth, Mn. Grandchildren Jessie (Curt) , Kristy, Britney (Brian), Courtney, Glen, Devin, Morgan and Brekkyn. Great grandchildren Ashton, Vaughn, Alena, Layne , Penelope, Amelia, Wesson, and Smith.
Orvel was preceeded in death by his grandson-in-law Jake Gonnerman, sister Anna Mae (Bill) Green, brother Dick (Dolores) Dreesen, brother Ben (Thelma) Dreesen, sister Aleida (Harry) Meyerhoff; his parents Ralph and Aalke Dreesen, and his parents-in-law Bruno and Anna Harms.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-7 pm, with the family present from 3-7 pm, at the Bethel Reformed Church south of Ellsworth. Visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Saturday at the Bethel Reformed Church, south of Ellsworth, officiated by Pastor Scott Van Ravenswaay. Burial with full military honors provided by the Ellsworth American Legion will be at the Grand Prairie Cemetery in Ellsworth.
