RAPHAEL “RAY” FRANCIS SCHNIEDER, age 91, of Lismore, died Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born January 7, 1932, in Lismore Township, to Reinhold and Kathryn (Dickmann) Schnieder. He attended school in Lismore; and served his country from 1952 to 1954, during the Korean Conflict, in the United States Army.
Ray married Aletha Oberembt. The couple farmed on the family farm west of Lismore. They moved into Lismore in 2010.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lismore; the Knights of Columbus; the Catholic Order of Foresters; and the Lismore American Legion Post #636. He enjoyed trap shooting, fishing and traveling, especially to Alaska & Arizona.
Ray is survived by his sister-in-law, June Schnieder; several nieces & nephews; Bill Oberembt, Mitchell, SD; Sr. Doris Oberembt, Yankton, SD; and Elaine Oberembt Kirsch, Fulda.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Aletha Schnieder on October 20, 2012; a brother, Leon Schnieder; two sisters, Erma Koehne and Audrey Wahlert; and in-laws, Jim Oberembt, Sr. Mary Ann Oberembt, Sr. Carol Oberembt, Bernice Oberembt Ross, Robert Oberembt, Rose Oberembt Simon and Imelda Oberembt Trautman.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday, April 10, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lismore; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Funeral Mass will 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, in Lismore, officiated by Monsignor Gerald Kosse. Burial with full military honors provided by the Lismore American Legion will be in the St. Anthony Cemetery in Lismore.
