SIDNEY EARL ECKERSON, age 85, of Worthington, died Monday, February 17, 2020, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. He was born March 10, 1934, in Omaha, NE, to Raymond and Vendla (Roos) Eckerson.
Sidney married Judy Day on December 17, 1954, at the Solid Rock Church (formerly Assembly of God) in Worthington. After their marriage, the couple lived in Worthington. Sidney was employed by the Worthington School District 518, as a Custodian.
He was a member of the Solid Rock Assembly Worthington. He enjoyed watching football, the Minnesota Twins, professional wrestling and Wheel of Fortune. He also enjoyed listening to Jimmy Swaggert music.
Sidney is survived by his wife, Judy Eckerson, Worthington; daughter, Cynthia Hoover, Spirit Lake, IA; three sons, Jerry Eckerson, Worthington; Timothy Eckerson, Worthington; and Paul (Rhonda) Eckerson, Rochester; thirteen grandchildren, Zachariah (Wendy) Grages, Rachel Grages, Josiah Grages, Benjamin Grages, Larry Hoover, Elizabeth (Jesse) Stokke, Heather (Keith) Lewis, Tiffany Eckerson, Macy (Godwin) Billa, Max (Jennifer) Eckerson, Samuel (Stephanie) Eckerson, Travis (Rebecca) Eckerson and Amber (Brock) Bakken; twenty four great-grandchildren, Elijah, Emma, Esther, Latoria, Teyel, Atianna, Matyx, Josiah Jr., Jeremiah, Adira, Jericho, Harper, Hadley, Madelyn, Hudson, Christian, Anica, Isaac, Caroline, Zoe, Levi, Ariana, Caleb and Faith; a brother, Russell Eckerson, St. Cloud; and a sister, Beverly Hutt, Sioux Falls, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Dr. Thayer Hoover; four brothers, Stanley, Merle, Byron and Dale Eckerson; and three sisters, Betty Baum, June Miller and Rose Novak.
A memorial service will be Saturday at noon at the Solid Rock Assembly, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Scott Peterson. A time of fellowship will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date at the Worthington Cemetery.
