Thomas Penning Obituary
Thomas Edwin Penning, 69 of Wilmont, MN passed away March 8, 2023, after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was born on April 10, 1953, to Clarence and Harriet (Hoffman) Penning in Adrian, MN. After Tom graduated from Worthington High School in 1971, he continued farming with his dad and brothers.
In 1974, Tom met Sandy Kellen at a Wilmont VFW Hall dance, decided he couldn’t live without her and married her on September 4, 1976, at St. Adrian Catholic Church. Tom and Sandy, were blessed with three remarkable daughters, Nancy, Suzy and Katie Jo.
Tom loved spending time with his family, especially his five favorite family members, his grandchildren. Tom was on the church board, a member of OLGC in Wilmont, was the board president of Green Prairie Coop., served on the St. Mary’s School board, and the on the board of the Nobles County Pork Producers.
Tom enjoyed fishing, prairie dog hunting in Montana, reading books, checking rain gauges and not only was his farming his work, but truly his passion. He devoted his life to farming with his three brothers and nephews.
Tom is survived by his wife, Sandra Penning, Wilmont; daughters, Nancy Remakel (Carl Hendel), Wilmont; and Suzy (Joe) Lewison, Canton, SD; grandchildren, Tony, Matt and Zac Remakel and Kate and Sean Lewison; six siblings, Joanne (Norm) Klein, John (Carolyn) Penning, Rick (Cindy) Penning, Char (Schutz) & John DeChaine, Tina (Lynn) Vosler, Kitty (Monte) Brown.
He was proceeded in death by his daughter, Katie Jo Penning in 1985; parents, Clarence & Harriet (Hoffman) Penning; and his brother, Tony Penning.

A time of fellowship will be from 4-7 pm Monday, March 13 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, in Wilmont. Memorial Mass will be 2 pm Tuesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, in Wilmont, officiated by Monsignor Gerald Kosse & Deacon Vern Behrends. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date.
