WILLIAM “BILL” BALK, age 68, of Wilmont, died Sunday, February 23, 2020, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. He was born February 13, 1952, in Adrian, to Lloyd and Mildred (Lais) Balk. He attended school at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School before graduating from Worthington High School in 1970.
Bill married Julie Jeffers on October 17, 1970, at St. Kilian Catholic Church. The couple lived west of Wilmont all of their married lives. Bill worked at Highland Manufacturing in Worthington. He later worked for thirty one years at Bedford Industries, in Worthington, before retiring in October of 2018.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors and collecting guns.
Bill is survived by his wife, Julie Balk, Wilmont; two children, Jamie “Bear” Balk, Wilmont; and Darcy (Mike) Ideker, Hartford, SD; five grandchildren, Austin, Alyssa, Caden, Cambree and Brynlee Ideker; two brothers, Dave Balk, Buffalo, MN; and Don (Pat) Balk, Worthington; and a sister, Julie Sturm, Maple Plain;aunts, uncles and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Mark “Mac” Balk; and a sister, Mary Ellen Strain.
A time of fellowship will be from 3-5 pm Sunday, with a rosary service and parish prayers at 3 pm, at St. Kilian Catholic Church in St. Kilian. A Memorial Mass will be 10:30 am Monday at St. Kilian Catholic Church officiated by Father Robert Krantz. Burial of cremains will be at a later date.
