DONALD T. ROOS, age 84, of Rushmore, MN; died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born March 27, 1929 south of Rushmore to parents, Douglas E. and Lillian (Olson) Roos. Donald attended school in Rushmore and graduated from Worthington High School in 1947. He then attended the University of Minnesota Agriculture College for two years. After his schooling he served his nation during the Korean Conflict in the United States Air Force.
Donald was united in marriage to Gerry Gardner on June 6, 1951 at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington. After he was discharged from the service they made their home south east of Rushmore and were engaged in farming until 1990 when he retired because of his health.
He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rushmore and served on many boards. Donald taught Sunday school and served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a member of the Ministerial Association of Mankato Presbytery. He served on the Rushmore Elevators and the Dewald Township Board. He was a member of the Rushmore Senior Citizens, liked playing cards, reading and enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed coffee with his friends at the CD Café whenever he could.
Donald is survived by his wife, Gerry Roos, Rushmore; children, Sue Spector, Apple Valley, MN; and Keith (Mona) Roos, Rock Well City, IA; four grandchildren, Josh Spector, Anna Spector, Tom (Alicia) Roos and Karen Roos, two great grandchildren, Foster and Brayden Roos; sisters, Lucille (John) Taylor, Worthington; Lorene (Ken) White, Worthington; Mary June (Del) Royer, Sommerton, SC and one sister-in-law, Virginia Roos, Pearl, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Catherine Scharfe and one brother Dale Roos.
