GEORGE KING, JR., age 90, of Rushmore, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Sanford Adrian Care Center. He was born January 3, 1919 in Holman Township in Iowa, to parents, George, Sr. and Kassiena (Vander Werff) King. He attended country school in rural Rushmore and farmed with his father. In 1941 George was drafted by the U.S. Army and served with the 128th Infantry, Red Arrow Division until 1945. He was stationed in New Guinea, Papuan and the southern Philippines. He was awarded a APTC ribbon, three bronze service stars and two purple hearts. On August 30, 1946 he was united in marriage to Leona Boots in Sibley, IA. After their marriage the couple lived near Rushmore and George continued farming. He also worked for Tennius Rabenburg shelling corn and Al McNab?s hatchery. He later worked for the Farmers Union Coop until he retired. George and Leona also owned and operated King?s Place in Rushmore, for over twenty years. George was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rushmore, he was also a member of the Eagles, VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed riding his lawn mower, socializing with customers and friends, being a jokester and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grand-children. George is survived by his three children, Thomas (Lynn) King, Phoenix, AZ; Corinne (Harlan) Hausmann, Rushmore, MN; and Virginia (Kevin) Kluever, Worthington; seven grandchildren, Becky ( Jamie) Ono, Chris (Jen) King, Bruce Hausmann, Brian Hausmann, Melissa Hausmann, Matt (Michelle) Lowe, and Josh (Nicole) Lowe, ten great-grandchildren, Ashley and Faith Ono, Kayla and Cheyenne King, Ashlee and Griffin Hausmann, Skylar Tosch, and Kyle, Nichole, and Karlie Lowe, four brothers, John (Irene) King, Worthington; Carl (Lucille) King, Rushmore; Percy (Ella Mae) King, Bloomington; Jim King, Worthington; and one sister, Jennie Wasmund, Worthington. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leona in July of 2005, infant daughter, Deanna, five sisters and one brother.
