STEPHEN “STEVE” LAWRENCE AHLERS, age 66, of Worthington, died Sunday, November 2, 2014, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital, in Pocahontas, IA, as a result of a sudden heart attack. He was born December 11, 1947, in Worthington, to Benjamin and Clara (Thorman) Ahlers. He attended St. Mary Catholic School in Worthington and graduated from Worthington High School in 1965. Steve entered the United States Army in 1966. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the 452 Reserved Supply. He was honorably discharged in 1969.
   Steve farmed near Little Falls from 1977 to 1983. He then moved back to Worthington where he was self-employed as an over the road truck driver. For the last ten years, he drove truck for family.
   He enjoyed camping, watching his son and grandson race, and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to make other people happy.
   Steve is survived by his four children, Staci (Chad) Cauwels, Bigelow; Dan (Jaime) Ahlers, Slayton; Jon (Aimee Bruns) Ahlers, Slayton; and Scott (Alissa) Ahlers, Platt City, MO; nine grandchildren, Tyler (fiancée, Sierra) & Alison Pospisil; Jordan, Cole, Brayden & Ben Ahlers; Libby & Logan Ahlers; and Vance Ahlers; great grandson, Aiden Pospisil; and six siblings, Jim (Mary) Ahlers, Fulda; Darlene Lloyd, Helena, MT; Lois (Jim) Walsh, Sioux City, IA; Chuck Ahlers, Laurens, IA; Mike (Elaine) Ahlers, Worthington; and Tom (Tammy) Ahlers, Fulda.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jace Ahlers, in 2013; great granddaughter, Payton Pospisil, in 2013; and a brother-n-law, Larry Lloyd.
   Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Worthington, officiated by Fr. Russell Scepaniak. Burial with full military honors will be at 4pm Saturday at St. Mary Cemetery in Worthington.
